What to actually open
If you already have RemitlyUse Remitly. Its rate this morning was 207.79 Jamaican dollars to the pound, about 2.3 percent below the real exchange rate, the one you see if you search "1 GBP to JMD" on Google. On £300 that is about £6.78 kept in the rate, plus the £1.99 fee. Remitly adds its fee on top. So if you send £300, you pay £301.99 and 62,337 Jamaican dollars arrive. The table takes the fee out of the £300 so that every app is compared on the same £300.
If you are new to RemitlyThe first transfer is better again.New customers get a special rate of 216.11 on the first £250 and no fee on the first transfer. On £300 this morning, that was 64,417 Jamaican dollars, about £11.73 more than the normal price. It works once. After that, the normal price applies.
If you send online with Western Union alreadyYou are £4.27 behind Remitly on £300.Its £2.99 fee is small. Most of the cost is in the rate, about 3.4 percent below the real one.
Do not use Xoom for this send if Remitly is an option. The fee is £2.99, but its rate sits about 4.3 percent below the real one. On £300 that is about £13 kept in the rate.
Do not use Wise for Jamaica, even if you use it for other countries.Wise gives the real exchange rate, but it sends to Jamaica through the old bank-to-bank system. The fee is £21.74 on £300 by bank transfer, or £22.58 by debit card. Wise's own quote said the money would arrive by Thursday 5 November.

Catches
The prices above are for an online send to a bank account in Jamaica. A send at a Western Union counter, or a send for cash pickup, can have a different price. At the counter, ask what rate they give you today in Jamaican dollars per pound. Then search "GBP to JMD" on your phone and compare.
The name you type must match the name on the Jamaican bank account. Ask your relative for the exact name and the account number before you send. A wrong detail can make the transfer come back.
Remitly's first-transfer price is for new customers only, one per person. Above £250, the rest of the money goes at the normal rate.
Some apps are missing from the table. Sendwave, WorldRemit, MoneyGram, Lemfi and the UK banks did not give a price for Jamaica on the Wise price comparison this morning. They are missing, not judged. If one of these is your usual app, check what arrives for £300 before you send.
How we checked
The check ran Friday 30 October 2026, morning UK time. Prices come from the Wise price comparison for £300 to a bank account in Jamaica: Wise 05:04 GMT, Xoom 04:58, Western Union 04:20. Remitly's price comes from its own UK calculator at 05:04. Two other rate sources were within 0.4 percent of Wise's rate.
