On 300 pounds to Nepal this Friday morning, Instarem delivered the most: NPR 60,435.79 for a zero fee. Wise came in about £2.55 behind, all of it in the £4.53 fee. Wise’s rate is the real one from Google. Skrill’s “zero fee” hides a rate 2 percent below that, and lands £4.15 behind Instarem.

What to actually open
If you already have Instarem installed, use Instarem. On 300 pounds this morning it delivered 60,435.79 rupees for a zero fee. That was the best of the four apps that returned a fresh price for Nepal today.
If you already have Wise installed and not Instarem, Wise is a fair pick. Wise gives you the real exchange rate, the one you see if you search “1 GBP to NPR” on Google. The fee is on the screen at £4.53. On Nepal that fee is what puts Wise in second place today, not the rate. About £2.55 behind Instarem on 300 pounds is small money for a familiar app, and Wise’s own delivery estimate on this route this morning was 30 minutes.
If you have neither of them, install Instarem. On this send size it is the clear pick on today’s numbers, and the app is straightforward to set up.
Do not open Skrill for a bank deposit send to Nepal. The “no fee” line on the front of the app is real; the loss is in the rate. Skrill’s rate this morning sat about 2 percent below the real rate, which on 300 pounds is roughly £4 you do not see anywhere on the screen. Western Union at the same send size is a small step better than Skrill and still £3.70 behind Instarem; the reason is the same one, a rate about 1.7 percent below the real rate. If Western Union is your usual counter for cash pickup in Nepal, that is a different question than the bank deposit price on the table above.
Catches
A few caveats before you press send. The table above assumes a bank deposit into a Nepalese rupee account. Wise, Instarem, Western Union and Skrill all send that way by default. If your family wants the money on an eSewa or Khalti wallet, open the app and check the receiving screen: the price for a wallet send is not the same number as the bank deposit price, and not every app on the table above pushes to those wallets.
Timing matters on Nepal. Nepal is four hours forty-five minutes ahead of the UK while the UK is on summer time, so a Friday morning send from London lands during working hours in Kathmandu and Pokhara. A bank deposit funded from a UK bank account before mid-morning usually settles the same working day in Nepal on Wise and Instarem. A late-Friday send from London may not settle until Sunday or Monday depending on the receiving bank’s cutoff.
Several apps many senders to Nepal reach for did not return a fresh price for GBP to NPR on the Wise price comparison this morning. That group includes LemFi, Remitly, WorldRemit, Xoom, MoneyGram, Small World and TransferGo. They are missing from the table today, not judged.
