What to actually open
If you already have Instarem installedUse Instarem. On £300 this morning it delivered 4,580.52 cedis for a zero fee. That was the best of the three apps that returned a fresh price for Ghana today.
If you already have Wise installed and not InstaremWise is a fair pick.Wise gives you the real exchange rate, the one you see if you search "1 GBP to GHS" on Google. The fee is on the screen at £5.96. On Ghana that fee is what puts Wise in second place today, not the rate. About £3.50 behind Instarem on £300 is small money for a familiar app.
If you have neither of themInstall Instarem. On this send size it is the clear pick on today's numbers, and the app is straightforward to set up.
Do not open Western Union for a bank deposit send this small to Ghana. The £1.99 fee is not the problem. The rate is: about 3.7 percent below the real rate, which is where roughly £10 of the £10.67 gap sits. Western Union is a familiar name at the counter, but on Ghana at this send size the app costs you real money you do not have to spend.

Catches
A few caveats before you press send. The table above assumes a bank deposit into a Ghanaian cedi account. Wise and Instarem both send that way by default. Western Union also offers cash pickup at an agent and mobile money to MTN MoMo or Telecel Cash for Ghana, and the price on the screen changes with the option you pick, so it is worth checking the receiving screen inside the app before you send.
Timing matters more on Ghana than on most routes. A bank deposit usually arrives the same working day on both Wise and Instarem for a payment funded from a UK bank early in the morning. Ghana is one hour behind UK time while the UK is on summer time, and a Friday afternoon send from London may not settle until Monday if the receiving bank in Accra has already closed for the day.
Several apps most senders to Ghana reach for did not return a fresh price for GBP to GHS on the Wise price comparison this morning. That group includes LemFi, Sendwave, Taptap Send, WorldRemit, Remitly, MoneyGram and Zeepay. They are missing from the table today, not judged. If one of them is your usual app, or if your family wants cash at an Ecobank or GCB Bank branch or a top-up straight to MoMo, open the app and check the number yourself before you send.
How we checked
The check ran on Friday 18 September 2026, morning UK time. Prices come from the Wise price comparison for a £300 bank transfer to Ghana: Wise's own row at 05:04, Instarem at 04:25, Western Union at 04:20. An independent rate feed matched Wise within a fifth of one percent of the real rate. We hold the raw JSON on file.
Next Friday: another country, another number.
