What to actually open
If you already have Remitly installed, use Remitly. On 300 pounds this morning it delivered 3,718.86 dirhams for a 99p fee. That was the best of the four apps that returned a fresh price for Morocco today.
If you already have Western Union installed and not Remitly, Western Union is fine. It delivered 3,699.31 dirhams, about £1.54 behind Remitly. That is small money and Western Union’s app is familiar to a lot of senders.
If you already have Wise installed, Wise is still a fair choice. Wise gives you the real exchange rate, the one you see if you search “1 GBP to MAD” on Google. The fee is on the screen at £8.94. On Morocco that fee is what puts Wise in third place today, not the rate. About £2.73 behind Remitly on 300 pounds is small money for a familiar app.
If you have none of them, install Remitly. On this send size it is the clear pick, and the app is straightforward to set up.
Do not open OFX for a send this small. Between the £7 fee and a rate about 2.9 percent below the real rate, OFX was £9.42 behind Remitly. OFX is built for much larger sends, where the tighter rate at scale beats the flat fee. On 300 pounds it does not.
Catches
The Remitly first-transfer offer. If you have never used Remitly before, check the app for a first-transfer offer. Remitly’s UK page has been advertising a better rate on your first send, with the fee waived, capped at the first few hundred pounds. A 300 pound send falls inside that cap. The exact rate shown depends on the day, so open the app to see what it actually gives you. Only useful once.
The Western Union first-send offer. Western Union runs a similar first-transfer promotion for new UK customers, usually a small extra amount on the rate for a first send. Same rule: it only helps you once, and only if the app shows you the offer when you open it.
Delivery time. A bank deposit to a Moroccan bank usually lands the same working day on Remitly and Wise for a payment funded by bank transfer early in the morning. Exact time depends on the receiving bank and on the weekend: banks in Morocco are closed Sunday, and Friday afternoons are short, so a Friday afternoon send may not settle until Monday. A pound or two difference at the top of the table is not worth losing a fast, familiar route for.
Bank rows in the comparison. RBS and NatWest returned a fresh price this morning too, at MAD 3,698.90 with no visible fee. That is the same NatWest Group price shown twice under two names, a shade behind Western Union. If your bank is one of them and you are already logged in, you are within a couple of pounds of the top of the table. If your bank is not one of them, do not open a NatWest account to save two pounds; use Remitly.
Others absent this week. Instarem and Xoom did not return a fresh price for GBP to MAD this morning. LemFi, Taptap Send, Sendwave, WorldRemit, Skrill and MoneyGram were not returned by the Wise price comparison for Morocco today.
